First published in the late 1970s, it combines Illness as a Metaphor and AIDS and Its Metaphors. Written while she was a cancer patient herself, it shows how the metaphors and myths surrounding certain illnesses add greatly to the suffering of patients and often inhibit them from seeking proper treatment.
