SHADOWS OF THE DEAD

Novel. After a high-speed chase with police, a driver abandons his car on the edge of dense woods and escapes on foot into the forest. Brought in to track the driver after the bloodhounds have lost his trail, Steps and Jimmy find the driver laughing maniacally, babbling about souls, and hiding a pristinely maintained box of eight posed rats.
