WITH WINSTON CHURCHILL AT THE FRONT: Winston in the Trenches 1916
In January 1916, Winston Churchill took command of a battalion on the Western Front. The battalion's adjutant, Dewar Gibb, subsequently wrote a pseudonymous account of his and Churchill's time together. Supplemented by many of Churchill's own letters, the observations of other soldiers, and additional narrative, this account proves Churchill to have been caring, compassionate, and fearless.
