Soon after learning how to fly, Earhart established a world altitude record and, in 1932, became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937, on a leg of what was planned as an effort to fly around the world, Earhart and her navigator disappeared over the Pacific Ocean, becoming one of aviation's greatest mysteries.
