Tells the little known story of the sinking of the steamboat Lexington on Long Island Sound in January 1840. With an estimated 147 passengers and crew and a cargo of baled cotton it left at four o'clock on a bitterly cold day. By seven o'clock she caught fire off Eaton's Neck on Long Island's north shore. By 3 a.m. only one passenger and three members of the crew survived. Photos.
