THE U.S. 37-MM GUN IN WORLD WAR II
In the mid-1930s, the U.S. Ordnance Department designed the M3 m3-mm gun and M4 carriage--the first antitank gun in the U.S. Army. It proved effective at the beginning of the war until Germany developed heavier tanks. Later, the gun proved effective against Japanese tanks and strong points in the Far East. Fully illustrated some in color.
